Student-Athlete of the Month Award Winners for April

KANSAS CITY, MO.--- Attack/Midfielder Christine McFarland and shortstop/pitcher Tom Fogerty from the University of Dallas were named today as the recipients of the Association of Division III Independents Student-Athlete of the Month awards for April.  It was the second consecutive monthly honor for Fogerty.

McFarland, a freshman from Floral Park, NY, scored 18 goals on 23 shots and recorded two assists to lead the Dallas lacrosse team.  In four April contests, her 20 points led the team.  She recorded a .720 shot percentage and a .920 shot on goal percentage.  She was two-for-four on free position shots, and recorded 14 ground balls, 20 draw controls and caused six turnovers.

Fogerty, a junior economics and finance major from Parker, CO, hit .545 in 13 starts at shortstop in the month of April.  The left-handed batter had 24 hits in 44 at-bats.  Ten of his hits were for extra bases, including three doubles, three triples, and a team-leading four homeruns.  During the month, Fogerty slugged 1.023, scored 17 runs and drove in 14.  He also stole six bases in seven attempts.  On the mound, Fogerty went 3-0 and pitched six innings of relief.  He struck out nine and had an ERA of 1.50.

The Association of Division III Independents consists of 21 Division III independent institutions that have joined together to recognize student-athletes at independent institutions, and to provide exempted postseason championship competition in nine sports in 2007-08.  The Association recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly, monthly and annual basis.  The Association provides statistical services for its members in seven sports.  In addition, it also will announce All-Independent teams at the conclusion of nine sports this year.

All competing student-athletes from the Association’s 21 members were eligible for the award.  Each school was allowed to nominate its top performing male and female student-athletes from April.  The award recipients were selected after a vote of the Association’s Student-Athlete Recognition Committee.
