Ashley named Association of Division III Independents men’s Runner of the Week KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Nebraska Wesleyan University senior Levi Ashley ( Alma, Neb.) has been selected as the Association of Division III Independents men’s Runner of the Week. Ashley claimed the individual men’s crown at the 2005 Great Plains Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships on Oct. 29 and led the NWU men to their sixth team title in the past seven years. Ashley outran Concordia’s two-time defending GPAC champion Andrew Walquist by 20 seconds and set a new 8K course record in the process (25:20.2). The meet was held at Wild Oaks Golf Club, just outside of Mitchell, S.D. Ashley is coached by Dr. Ted Bulling.

Willis named Association of Division III Independents women’s Runner of the Week KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Saint Joseph’s College sophomore Sarah Willis ( Buckland, Mass.) has been named the Association of Division III Independents women’s Runner of the Week. Willis won the Division III Independents Championship race with a 5K time of 20:49. With the finish, Willis recorded her fourth win of the season. The co-captain also helped the Monks to the their second team win of the season. Willis is coached by Tom Dann.

Baird receives Association of Division III Independents men’s soccer Player of the Week KANSAS CITY , Mo. – University of California-Santa Cruz senior forward Bryan Baird ( San Anselmo, Calif.) has been selected as the Association of Division III Independents men’s soccer Player of the Week. In three games this week, Baird netted two goals, bringing his season total to 19. Baird scored the first goal of the game against Buena Vista University (4-0), making it his sixth game-winner. He was held scoreless in a 1-0 win over Nebraska Wesleyan University, but scored a goal in a senior day win over St. Mary’s (9-0). Before the battle with NWU, Baird had scored a goal in 10 consecutive games. For the season, Baird has 42 total points and 4 assists, along with his 19 goals.

Carpenter receives Association of Division III Independents women’s soccer Player of the Week KANSAS CITY, Mo. – University of California-Santa Cruz senior midfielder/forward Caitlin Carpenter ( Sacramento, Calif.) has been named the Association of Division III Independents women’s soccer Player of the Week. Carpenter scored the game-winning goal in overtime giving the Slugs a 2-1 victory over nationally ranked No. 22 University of Redlands. Carpenter headed in the game-winner off a corner kick with just 30 seconds remaining in the first overtime. The goal was the Slugs’ first goal scored off a corner kick all season. Carpenter, who is coached by Michael Runeare, has three goals on the season.

Bray named Association of Division III Independents volleyball Player of the Week KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Finlandia University senior outside hitter Mara Bray ( Haslett, Mich.) has been selected as the Association of Division III Independents volleyball Player of the Week. Bray helped her team to a 3-3 week and a second place finish at the UW-Superior Stinger Halloween Classic, in which she earned All-Tournament team honors. Her tournament performance included 32 kills (2.67 per game), 70 digs, three block assists, and five service aces. For the week, Bray recorded 51 kills, 11 service aces, and 5 block assists. Her 127 digs on the week was good for a 6.68 per game average and she made just nine service reception errors in 83 attempts. Additionally, Bray, who is coached by Victoria Huenink, helped her team achieve the most wins in school history (14-17).
